About this board

The Building Board of Appeals provides guidance to the Building Division in interpreting state and local building codes. The Board meets on an as-needed basis when there are conflicts over the applicability of the building code or to discuss the suitability of particular building materials.

Membership information

Number of members: 6 (5, plus 1 alternate)

Term of office: 3 years.
*(Appointments within six months of position start date are considered full term.)

Membership requirements: A minimum of five years of professional experience on matters pertaining to building design and/or construction and who are not employees of the jurisdiction. Membership shall include a minimum of one registered design professional, one residential contractor, one commercial contractor, and two at-large members.

Principal place of residence within the jurisdictional limits of the City of Albany. (Res 6797)

Members are appointed by the council at-large.
